What BC law allows
In British Columbia, gambling is legal only when the provincial government runs it. BCLC, a Crown corporation, runs all commercial gambling in the province, including online. Casino floors and online play both fall under that one corporation.
PlayNow.com, operated by BCLC, is the sole site in B.C. where online gambling is legal. A website run by anyone else falls outside that rule. In BC, nobody under 19 may gamble. It is the same for casinos and for online gambling.
The provincial gambling regulator in BC is the Independent Gambling Control Office, or IGCO. It has held that role since April 13, 2026. On August 28, 2026, the IGCO said PlayNow.com is the single regulated commercial site for online gambling allowed to operate in BC. The same statement added that other online gambling sites accepting BC players operate illegally in BC.
